The folding piece of furniture for assembly in kit form consists of a base (3), a front (1) and two sides. The two sides each consist of two lengthwise panels which are folded in half between the base and the front. At least one shelf (5) is linked to one of the main panels and can be folded back into the base when stored or transported. The shelves are retained in their folded positions by stops (8) which fit into grooves in the side panels.
