In the column is a horizontal, perforated plate employed for the suspension of numerous vertical transfer elements (a). Each element (a) is used to carry a vertical stack of curved discs provided with slots through which a liq. can trickle downwards. The discs on each element (a) are sepd. from each other by a constant vertical dimension, but are staggered on adjacent elements (a) so a disc on one element enters the gap between two discs on adjacent elements (a). Each element (a) pref. has a cross-section resembling a three-pointed star and a flexible top end forming a hook resting in a hole in the perforated plate. Homogeneous distribution of an ascending stream of gas across descending trickles of liq. is achieved.
