The grandstand assembly for use at sporting events etc. comprises a series of stages which can be moved in a horizontal plane to nest into one another to facilitate transport. The number of stages corresponds to the number of different levels required in the grandstand. The rear stage forms the highest level whilst the front stage forms the lowest level with the intermediate stages creating a stepped configuration in between. The weight of each stage is carried at the rear by the front edge of the preceeding stage and at the front by downwardly directed legs. Each leg has a polyamide wheel mounted on it and the back of each stage has a set of wheels mounted along the top edge for engaging the underside of the superposed stage.
