In a process for converting the sensible heat of a fluid into mechanical energy by subjecting the fluid to heat exchange with an auxiliary fluid agent (I) circulating in a closed circuit, (I) being vapourised, then relaxed, condensed and then brought to a higher pressure, the improvement is that (I) is a mixt. of at least 2 components, specifically trichloromonofluoromethane and dichlorodifluoromethane. The process is used for converting thermal energy into mechanical or electrical energy partic. by means of the 'Clausius-Ranbine' cycle. Use of the mixt. allows the cost of removal of the heat of condensation to be reduced without impairing output.
