The appts. indicates the total amount of heat given by a radiator during a certain time, and is used to attribute to each user the cost of heating in buildings where all flats are heated from a single boiler. The appts. includes a tube containing a volatile substance whose vapours flow through a channel to the air. The channel has a special shape and a movable rod inside it in order to reduce its cross-section. The rod is controlled as a function of the temp. such that the reduced cross-section part is increased with the temp. The shortening of the volatile substance column in the tube during the period between two readings gives an indication of the heat consumption of the radiator, and the readings are taken against a graduated scale in the tube.
