Clip applicator for securing rails to sleepers - has vice which squeezes clips into sleeper mountings to retain rails

The applicator for installing clips (6) which hold a rail (4) to the sleepers (5) of a railway incorporates a threaded vice carried by the lower part of a movable chassis which can pass along the rails from one sleeper to another. One jaw (21) of the vice is fixed to the chassis, whilst the other (19) is movable by a screw-drive (18) powered by a motor (1) via a reduction gear (15,16,17). The jaws locate over the clips and press them into the mountings (29) on the sleepers to hold the rail in position.
