Vehicle headlamp with hot air deflector over bulb - uses semi-cylindrical plate over bulb to divert hot air towards front glass of headlamp for better cooling
The automatic headlamp has a curved plate over the horizontally mounted bulb to divert hot air forward, towards the headlamp front glass where exposure to atmosphere ensures faster cooling. This reduces the heating round the lamp base and at the crown of the reflector, which, partic. with plastic headlamp shells, can lead to distortion and deterioration of the headlamp material. The curved plate is of generally cylindrical segment shape and is mounted over the forward end of the horizontally mounted lamp bulb. The air is drawn from below the bulb and as it is heated rises past the bulb, moving because of the upward tilt of the curved plate towards the front glass. The radius of curvature of the plate is approx. equal to that of the bulb.
