The unit comprises a box with transparent outer walls (1), a cover, (13) and interior partitions (7) to prevent the crustaceans from eating each other. The upper part (2) of the outer walls may be opaque. A horizontal panel (4) with apertures separates the females from their eggs and larvae which fall through into the lower chamber. The floor of their chamber is covered with a particulate substrate to support the young shrimps or lobsters. Water is circulated through the unit up to the level of the upper chamber. An overflow pipe (12) prevents the water level from becoming too high.
