The process for condensation of water vapour forms part of the operating cycle of an electrical generator using the expansion of water vapour through turbines. Condensation of the water (1) is achieved by vaporisation of a refrigerating fluid. The temp. of vaporisation of this fluid under atmospheric pressure is less than that of water. The vaporised refrigerating fluid is expanded in a turbine (20), and subsequently condensed by heat exchange with the cold water in the course of being reheated. The liquefied refrigerating fluid is recompressed (29) and then carried back around in order to exchange heat with the water vapour which is to be condensed. The refrigerating fluid may be ammonia. The water vapour to be condensed is at a pressure of 400-500 millibars prior to condensation.
