The frame is used to assist a handicapped person to stand up from a wheelchair and enter a swimming pool. It comprises a longitudinally positioned jack (5) which raises or lowers a beam (6) and pivots it about an axis (11) at the bottom of the frame. The beam forms a parallelogram linkage with a fixed vertical bar (1) and a pair of articulated bars. A seat (9) is mounted at the top of the linkage and is raised and lowered by the jack. A control valve (15) varies the level of the seat and a second valve (16) varies the level of the seat support relative to the edge of the swimming pool.
