The needle point on the stylus is fixed to a level on the stylus such that the point is in the longitudinal axis to provide coherent movement of the point and stylus. The stylus is hollow to reduce the inertia and it is supported by a suspension at the centre of its length. This suspension is fixed to the shell and has a hysteresis and is flexibly chosen to suit the design. An annular magnet surrounds the suspension to provide a constant magnetisation for the stylus. Only one magnetic pole is within the stator assembly and is made of a highly magnetic material to reduce the size and weight.
