The suspension uses a hydraulic cylinder to alter the height of the suspension linkages by displacement of a rod coupled to the suspension. The hydraulic cylinder functions as a combined damper and height setting unit under control of a fluidic unit. The fluid supply to the main cylinder chamber is regulated through an electro-distributor controlled by pressure and position transducers fitted in the cylinder. The transducers supply an OR gate whose output regulates the fluid supply to the electro-distributor. An indicator fitted to the suspension gives a signal which can be used to display the suspension height. When the piston in the cylinder attains its final limit position, a sensor ceases to deliver its position related signal. This causes the electro-distributor to return to its initial position under the influence of a return spring.
