The mechanism transports rounds of ammunition from a magazine to a heavy gun, particularly in an armoured fighting vehicle, delivering them axially from the extraction position to the breech. The magazine is in the form of a ring sector with the rounds pointing to the centre, as does the breech opening. The loading mechanism swings between the extraction position of each round and one in line with the breech, and is also adjustable for height if necessary. The vehicle has a traversing turret in which the gun is mounted, while the magazine is accommodated in the turret, preferably at the rear, and slews with the gun. The flat ring sectors, in which the rounds are stored in the magazine, are mounted horizontally and in layers at the level of the breech opening of the gun when horizontal.
