Improvements in or relating to heating systems for manned submersibles

A heating system for a manned submersible is provided by a heat pump circuit extracting heat via an evaporator (24) from the submerging water and transferring heat via a condenser (16) to a heating-liquid circuit, for warming occupants of the submersible. A pump (20) is included for circulating the heating-liquid. Preferably the heat-pump circuit is of vapour cycle type. Power is provided for driving the motors of the heating-liquid pump (20) and the heat pump circuit compressor (15) or pump, at least in an emergency condition, by an electrical storage battery (14) of high energy type, e.g. a sodium sulphur battery. Warmth may be given to the occupants of the submersible by radiator means, liquid warmed garments and by heating respirable gas. IMAGE
