PURPOSE:To reduce the number of various kinds of using valves and to improve the cleaning effect, by providing a cleaning path in which a cleaning element is charged so as to cross in an optical window in the flow path of a sample and by cleaning the optical window from the inner surface by moving the cleaning element to the reciprocating direction. CONSTITUTION:A light emitted from a light source 1 is transmitted through a sample flow path 3 through an optical window 4 and the turbidity of a sample filuid is detected by photodetectors 6, 7. A globular cleaning element 11 is charged in the inside of a cleaning path 10 passing washed fluid, and its diameter is slightly larger than the diameter of an inner surface path of the window 4. Stop valves 15, 16 at the upper and lower parts of the path 3 are closed and one of three-way valves 14R, 14L is opened and the washed fluid is made to flow in the cleaning path 10 from a feeding tube 12 and the inner surface of the window 4 is rubbed by the element 11, and then the element 11 is inverted by switching to a feeding tube 12 at the opposite side to clean the window 4. The cleaning element 11 plays free in the inner parts of the filling holes 17 which are expanded at both ends of the path 10 and stains romoved from the optical window are taken off by scraping to the inner surface of the filling holes. By this way, the constitution of a tubing path is simplified.
