METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DOWNWARD TYPE CONTINUOUS CASTING OF CAST INGOT USING HEATING MOLD

PURPOSE:To produce a cast ingot having a smooth surface of an optional shape of section easily, quickly and safely bt immersing one end of a U-shaped oil feed pipe into a holding furnace for molten metal, and drawing out the cast ingot from the outlet of a hollow heating mold constituted at the other end. CONSTITUTION:The other end of a U-shaped oil feed pipe 4 constituted with a hollow mold 5 contg. a heating element 6 at one end is immersed into the molten metal 3 in a holding furnace 1 for molten metal. The forward end of a dummy bar 7 is brought into contact with the inside of a casting mold 5 and an air vent valve 10 is opened. The melt surface in the furnace 1 is then moved upward by a control mechanism 2 for melt surface to feed the molten metal into the mold 5 and after the inside of the pipe 4 is filled with the molten metal, the valve 10 is closed. The melt surface in the furnace 1 is moved downward and is maintained constant at approximately the height of the bottom end of the mold 5. While a dummy bar 7 is brought into contact with the metal 3, the bar is moved downward with pinch rolls 9, and the cast ingot is drawn out continuously under cooling with sprays 8 for coolant such as water.
