摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a novel anthraquinone dye which possesses properties required as a dichronic dye and develops alone clear green to yellowish green, and to provide a liquid crystal compsn. which serves as a highly practicable green display material and makes green liquid crystal display of high display quality possible. CONSTITUTION:An anthraquinone dye of formulaI(wherein R1, R4 are each an amino or alkylamino group with the proviso that at least one of R1, R4 is an amino group; R5, R8 are each H, hydroxy, amino; phi is a substd. or unsubstituted phenyl group) such as the compd. of formula II (the color of this compd. in GR- 41 is green) is provided. A dichroic dye for liquid crystals is composed of said anthraquinone dye of formulaI. A liquid crystal compsn. consists of a nematic liquid crystal and said dichroic dye for liquid crystals, which s composed of said anthraquinone dye of formulaI. They are novel and useful anthraquinone dyes and contributes to the development of liquid crystal colors in guest-host systems.
