PURPOSE:To predict the quantity of sludge in settling basins by subjecting the time serial data on the flow rate of inflow sewage, the flow rate of return sludge, the flow rate of excess sludge, the concn. of sludge in outflow liquid mixtures and the quantity thereof to model analysis. CONSTITUTION:The flow rate Qs of sewage flowing into an aerating tank 30, the flow rate Qr of return sludge from a sludge storage tank 21, and the fow rate Qw of excess sludge delivered from the tank 21 out into sewage treatment facilities are detected respectively with flowmeters 36, 26, 29. The concn. Xa of the sludge in the liquid mixtures fed from the tank 30 to a settling basin 20 is detected with a concn. meter 32 for liquid mixtures; therefore in order to calculate the quantity of sludge in the basin 20 by using 9 model equations, the delay time td which changes momentarily as well as a proportional constant (b) and the number (n) of the tanks in the vertical part are calculated by actual measurements, a min. error methods, etc., and the quantity of sludge in the vertical part A, the quantity of the sludge sunk in the horizontal flow part B, and the quantity of the settled sludge are determined respectively. The quantity of the sludge in the settling basin is determined by taking the sum of these quantities.
