摘要

PURPOSE:To produce sponge titanium of good quality contg. iron uniformly overall by allowing sponge titanium contg. excess iron to react with TiCl4 to form lower chlorides then reducing this with metallic Na. CONSTITUTION:Vessels 1, 2, 3 are made of stainless steel and a reactor 4 is made of a steel plate. The metallic Na is supplied from the vessel 2 to the reactor 4, and is heated and held at about 600 deg.C in an Ar atmosphere. Sponge titanium contg. much iron is charged into the vessel 3, and is heated and held at about 800 deg.C with a heater (not shown). TiCl4 is dropped from the vessel 1 to the vessel 3, and lower chlorides such as TiCl3, TiCl2 obtained here are supplied successively to the reactor 4. After the supply of the TiCl4 is finished, the inside of the vessel 4 is maintained at about 1,000 deg.C for about 3hr to complete the reaction. Theoretical reaction weights are used for the amts. of Na and TiCl4.
