PRODUCTION OF STANDARD TEST PIECE FOR ARTIFICIAL DEFECT FOR NON-DESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION

PURPOSE:To make an artificial defect buried in a test piece easily by providing a small cavity in the mutually joined surfaces of divided test pieces, burying a material differing from the material of the test piece in said cavity, and joining both test pieces to one body. CONSTITUTION:A standard hole 1 as an artificial defect is provided to one test piece 3' out of two divided test pieces 3, 3', and both pieces 3, 3' are welded to a solid phase by pressurizing presses 5, 5', so that the artificial defect 1 of the small cavity is buried in the inside. If a diffusion welding method is used as a joining method, the joined parts do not reflect ultrasonic waves and besides, said parts can be thoroughly metallurgically joined to one body 6. Since the deformation in the joined parts according to the welding operation is small, the geometric shape near the same can be controlled. The pieces 3, 3' may be of the same kind of material or of dissimilar materials. It is also possible to make the artificial defect relating to inclusions by packing a dissimilar material such as ceramics beforehand in the standard hole 1.
