PURPOSE:To obtain the titled atomized iron powder by adjusting the contents of O, C, N, Mn, P and S to specified amounts or less, specifying the amount of powder having a specified grain size or below, and providing specified values of apparent density, green compacting density under a specified molding pressure and deflective strength of a green compact under a specified molding pressure. CONSTITUTION:The composition of iron powder is composed of, by weight, 0.25% O, 0.05% C, 0.005% N, 0.4% Mn, 0.05% P, 0.1% S and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and the contents of the impurities are restricted to specified values or less. The iron powder is regulated so that powder having =45mum grain size occupies 10-50wt%, and 2-2.5g/cm3 apparent density, =6.7g/cm3 green compacting density under 5t/cm2 molding pressure and =250kg/cm2 deflective strength of a green compact under 4.2t/cm2 molding pressure are provided.
