1475936 Cooling towers ECODYNE CORP 26 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 27098/75 Headings F4K and F4S The gravity feed of liquid to be cooled e.g. in the finned heat exchange tubes 24 of the dry cooling section 22 of a combined wet and dry cooling tower 10, is controlled by nozzles 50, each comprising a chamber 70 Fig. 2 having apertures 82 in a lower surface 78 through which the liquid passes from the normal supply basin 16 of the tower for passage down a vertical tubular portion 72 which is vertically adjustably positioned relative to the heat exchange tube 24 and which is integrally formed with an air vent tube 74. The air vent tube extends upwardly from the upper end of the tubular portion 72 through the chamber 70. Spring retainers 90 and annular beads 95, 96 retain the lower end of the tubular portion with the tube 24. Control of flow is achieved by vertical adjustment of the chamber 70 relative to the basin floor 17 to alter the head HSP1/SP of liquid. The liquid is supplied to the basin 16 through a distribution pipe 18 and box 20 and after passage through the tubes 24 discharges into the lower wet cooling section 30. Air flow from the two sections are mixed in a plenum area 46 prior to discharge from the tower via a stack 38 under the influence of a fan 36 to reduce the creation of a steam plume above the tower. The relative amounts of wet and dry air passing to the plenum are controlled by louvre or damper assemblies 44, 48.
