The hand-lever (8) operated mixer tap maybe used in hospitals, using a housing (2) with a mixed water spout straddled by the incoming hot and cold water feeds (4). Separate closing devices (14,15) are sited between each feed and the spout, each comprising a seat (16) and a conical valve (17) rigidly connected to a piston (18), and being actuated simultaneously by a cam (26) driven by the hand lever. The devices are closed by water pressure and maybe mounted on opposite sides of the cam, incorporating a cylindrical sleeve (20) with a ring (24) and piston. The sleeve is grooved (21) and flanged and screws into the ring which forms the seat for the valve element.
