The discharge mechanism is intended for a machine which lifts sugar-beet or the like and comprises at least one (7), but preferably three screen drums (5-7) which rotate (23) about vertical axes and remove adhering earth. The mechanism comprises means, such as two slotted exit doors (12,13) swivelable about vertical pivots (14,15), which permit discharging the crop either centrally (10) or along one side behind the machine.
