This folding rule is designed so that one can easily and accurately read or mark measurements on a reference plane without having to unfold the entire rule. This folding rule is formed by the usual series of small rules or sections but instead of being assembled with the numbers starting on the top section, they are assembled with the numbers starting on the bottom section. Therefore the measuring rule can be placed directly on the plane to be measured or marked without the user having to unfold the entire rule. In the version for a right-handed person, the graduations go from left to right. In the version for a left-handed person, they go from right to left.
