To simplify the application of gathering tapes on curtains and the like, provision is made for at least one adhesive layer to be arranged on the back of the gathering tape, which adhesive layer does not contact the pulling cord. It can be made to adhere to the curtain or the web-type material under the effect of pressure and heat. The adhesive layer thus merely has to be ironed on to the curtain. By the effect of heat and pressure, a fixed, homogeneous bonding results between the gathering tape and the backing material such that sewing is not required.
