Oral anti-pertussis vaccine - contg. live Bordetella EM 1964 bacteria

An anti-pertussis vaccine comprises living bacteria of Bordetella strain EM 1964 in a pharmacologically acceptable support. Less side-effects are encountered than when using vaccines contg. killed Bordetella pertussis bacteria. The bacterial strain is registered at the state Institute for the Control of Medicines, Sofia, Bulgaria under number 321. The vaccine contains 3000,000 to 3,000,000,000 microorganisms per ml, the diluent pref. being physiological saline. It is obtd. by culturing EM 1964 for 48 hours at 37 deg.C in Borget - Genou medium and diluting with saline. It is pref. given orally in two equal doses.
