The tool supporting device is used in an enclosed cylindrical tank (10) provided with a manhole (14), for executing work on the inside of the tank. The device is movable upwards and downwards along the tank central axis line, and a beam unit (12,34) for tool fixture extends from the centre axis line to the tank wall. A hoisting line (24) is attached centrally to the inside of the tank cover, and works with a line block (26,28) to move the beam along the axis line.
