In a flail mulcher for clearing away the products of clear-cutting in forestry, the invention provides for a rotary receiver drum (9) with resilient tines (8) to be connected upstream of the actual operating shaft (2). The chopped-up small pieces of wood are intended, in addition, to be received via a collecting channel (4) and to be fed, via a transverse conveyor (5), to a downstream comminuter (7), from where they can be fed, by means of blowers (6), to a briquetting press (15) or channelled, via an ejection bend (14), to a downstream collecting carriage.
