Stone detection device for a programmed stone flat polishing machine adapted to be mounted on a moving carriage on which a polishing head is arranged. This system comprises flexible conduits (9) provided with nozzles (11) for blowing air coming from a fan (16) lines (12) inside the conduits (9) open into amplifiers (13) cooperating with inductive sensors (27) connected to an electric control circuit for controlling the height of the nozzles (11). When those nozzles are at an appropriate height, the overpressure of air inside the line (12) actuates the sensors (13, 27) which control the stop of the lowering of the nozzles (11). This device has a minimum overall size and allows an appropriate remote detection free of contact with the stone at the end of travel of the polishing tool.
