A 2,3-dihydropyran of the general formula: IMAGE wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen or alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and where at least two of the groups R1, R2, R3 and R4 are said alkyl groups including all optical isomers thereof is useful in combatting insects, particularly the tobacco beetle Lasioderma seriicorne F.
