The invention relates to a method and a device for placing solid packing when working steeply sloping seams, with the use of a packing wall whose wall sections can be shifted individually one after the other from the bottom to the top. In order to suppress greater flowing movements of the packing masses placed in the packing space, the packing material is fed via a drop-pipe line from the working face into the waste areas, which open during the shifting of the wall sections behind their waste lagging. The drop-pipe line is formed by aligned conveying channels of the individual wall sections. The latter conveniently also have platforms which project into the waste space, are loaded by the packing and help to steady the packing masses placed in the waste space.
