Abstract of the DisclosureA method, apparatus and system making use ofthe "heavy-medium" technique to effect efficient separationbetween desired and undesired solid components of asized mineral (e.g., raw coal). It is characterizedby use of two centrifugal separating operations performedin a single compound cyclonic device. The first stage ofthe device receives a feed comprising the sized mineraltogether with heavy-medium slurry. The second stage ofthe device receives heavier separated underflow solidsfrom the first stage and a separately introduced feedof heavy-medium slurry. The overflow from the firststage of the device contains the lighter mineral. In acomplete method and system, heavy-medium supplied to theseparating operation is recovered for re-use.- 1 -
