ABSTRACTA method and apparatus for effecting objectivequality measurements on speech transmission apparatus allowsreproduction of the characteristics of the linear part of asystem under test, utilizing only the system input and outputsignals; these characteristics are used to generate a refe-rence signal, obtained from the input signal to the system,with which to compare the output signal of the system, andthence to obtain an objective quality measure.This allows elimination of the effects of thelinear characteristics, which affect the objective measure-ment without influencing the quality of system performance.
