To promote arcextinction by the arc chute and accelerated breakercontact separation, the breaker contacts are flankedby a magnetic assembly comprising opposed columns ofparallel, spaced ferromagnetic plates embedded in aninsulating material. The columns may be magneticallycoupled by a yoke to create a closed slot in which thebreaker movable contact travels.
