For high-intensity-discharge lamps, and particularly high-pressure mercury or sodium-mercury HID lamps, the electron-emissive material portion of the lamp electrodes is Ba₃CaM₂O₉ wherein M is niobium, tantalum or any combinations thereof. The specified material is highly emissive, very refractory, and essentially completely non-reactive with respect to moisture.
