Press(30) includes mating mold sections, a center mechanism with an inflatable shaping and curing bladder, bead grips for engaging the interior underside of a green tire upper bead(174), and a holder to engage the thread of green tire away from the bead(55). The holder holds open the tire with the upper bead and thread held apart in fixed axial relation to facilitate bladder insertion. The grip is precisely centered on the center mechanism by an axial pilot on one engaging a pilot bushing on the other. The mechanism has a fixed top and slidable bottom bladder clamp on a post with a drop limiting the elevation of the bottom clamp.
