A device for chopping runners obtd. from a plastics injection molding machine prior to grinding them into reusable particles comprises a rotating shaft carrying blades having radial cutting edges. Located along the shaft & fixed to the housing of the device are stationary blades which operate in a scissor like fashion with blades in the shaft. The cutting edge of the blades on the shaft, or the stationary blades, are so angled or curved as to urge the runners radially inwardly during cutting. Cutting is ensured even with a slowly rotating shaft, which in turn means realtively low power consumption. The runners are fed to conventional grinders in smaller pieces than before and the power consumption and noise of the grinder is reduced.
