The crane is particularly of the tower type with a travelling crab, the rope falls being reeved round one or more loose pulleys in a hoist block with a hook. The falls (15, 18) also pass through a frame (24) raised and lowered at the same time as the hoist block (16), and which keeps them apart. One of them, at least, can pass through spaced guides in the frame, so as to keep this correctly aligned on the rope. Each can also be reeved round pulleys in opposite sides of the frame, which can be suspended from a single rope (21), raised and lowered by a separate winch coupled to the main hoist winch.
