Answering line networks are allocated to transmissions devices connected to a centrally controlled connecting device. Connecting lines are connected through the line networks to the operators circuit in the incoming and outgoing directions. A switching translation connects speech circuits passing through the connecting device to the operators position and to further transmission devices. Connecting lines between the transmission devices (FUE) and the operator's position (BPL) pass through the switching transmission device (VUE) whose operator controlled directional switch disconnects the connecting lines during switching from the line networks and inserts them into a trunk between the operator (BPL) and the connection device (F-K).
