The X-ray system allows preparations to be X-rayed quickly during an operation and with as little hand manipulation as possible. The preparation mount (19) slides between a soft X-ray tube (11) and an image intensifier (25). A fluorescent layer (36) is located outside the image intensifier and an image of it formed via an optical imaging system (35) on the image intensifier's photocathode (32). Optic fibres may be used instead of a lens system for forming the image of the fluorescent layer on the image intensifier's photocathode.
