The castable and/or compressible prod. is made by mixing a filler with large surface area, and a heavier filler, using prescribed vols. of each. The resulting mixt. is then fed into a second mixer contg. sand and stone chips to produce a mixt. with lower bulk density than similar conventional mixts., and to which the binder is added. The vol. ratio 4:3 is pref. 1:0.5 to 1:5, esp., 1:1; and filler is pref. amorphous SiO2 or diatomite. Each filler is pref. fed into a weighing hopper by screw feeders. By using a filler of low apparent density, the amt. of asphalt in the mixt. can be increased, e.g. from 7% to 9.5%, to make a castable mass.
