The differential is formed by a number of spur gears, and comprises a hollow input gear wheel (1,8,8a) containing a spur gear assembly consisting of an even number of intermeshing spur gears (3) circumferentially equi-spaced around a circle. The spur gear shafts (4b) project alternately to the sides of further spur gear wheel, where they carry the input gears (4,4a) meshing with an output gear wheel (5,5a), coaxial with the input gear wheel. The shafts are carried in bearings in the input gear wheel and in a housing (6) secured to this gear wheel. The intermeshing gears may form a gear pump with closable connection between inlet and outlet ducts.
