The operating positions are connected to coupling units. Connection to one operating position can be converted to another one. The necessary data for the operating positions are stored in a data memory of a data processor and can be displayed at stations permanently assigned to the operating positions. Two groups of coupling units are made available. The first group (AS1) is coupled to the operating positions (PL), while the second group (AS2) is coupled to the automatic notification units (AE). A control unit (ST) is connected to each coupling unit. It identifies the subscriber connection after siezing and, in dependence upon this identification, initiates switching through to the associated installation or switches over the connection to the position or unit (PL, AE) required.
