The profile post (1) is used in the setting out of building of other works, being re-usable by virtue of a base which is secured by driven pins (6), abd serving to locate a transverse profile rail or a string line defining a partic. level e.g.a wall damp course. The post (1) may be round hollow section (2) in metal, and includes a demountable stay (12), and having a channel section foot (7'). The section (7') is welded to the bottom of the post, with the web (11) vertical and the flanges (8,9) projecting, and with the flange holes (10) for a driven anchor pin (6). A partic. detail may use a trapezoidal gusset plate (15) to secure the section (7') whereby the flanges incline to the horizontal at some 10 degrees away from the post. The stay (12) may be secured by a bolted clip (20) and may have a similar channel section foot secured by a pin (6), the detail extending to include a base frame (13,16) with a further channel section foot.
