A rotating cylinder (1), used for the deflection of ribbon material is provided with external radial grooves of flat VEE-profile. Radial holes are provided at the base of these grooves. About threequarters of the cylinder periphery is enclosed by an air box (6). The two axial edges (8,9) of the box includes flexible strips with axial folds (10,11) in order to stiffen the sealing lips. When air is forced into the box (6), the sealing lips lift off the cylinder surface only a minute amount.
