The invention relates to a method for determining the atmospheric effect on telemetered radiometric values from objects, and to auxiliary quantities relative thereto. In this method, the radiation emanating from a section of this object is continuously measured over a specific angular range. The continuous measured values thereby produced can be used for extrapolation to a 0 atmospheric effect. Furthermore, the continuous measurement can be performed during an overflight. The device for carrying out this method contains a radiometer by means of which it is possible to carry out measurement of the section of the object continuously over a specific angular range. The process of gaining the measured values required for the method can be combined with calibrating a scanner during operation.
