Elongate, tubular containers, such as tubes, sleeves or the like, having a container body made of a sheet of paper or lightweight cardboard or possibly impregnated fabric have a conical or virtually conical shape and on the inside an inside protective coating and, on the outside, a protective and decorative coating, the mutually overlapping edge parts of the sheet being connected to one another by sealing, hot-sealing, welding or bonding. At one end, the container body is closed by a head piece of environmentally friendly material, for example chemical pulp, cellulose, etc., which can be mounted, for example bonded or welded or sealed or sprayed, onto the container body at a later date. At the other end, the container body is sealed by a tight connection of the wall ends. The container body can have a longitudinal seam extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body if it is produced by single or multiple rolling, wrapping or folding, in which case it can possibly also be distended or shrunk to produce a conical shape. It can also have a seam winding helically around the longitudinal axis of the body if it is produced by helical wrapping of the sheet around a cylindrical or possibly even conical core. The new container can be produced item by item or even continuously, for example in tubular form, the individual container sections then being produced by cutting to length.
