The apparatus is essentially composed of a pack unit (1) which contains a plurality of separate chambers (2), which can be closed by lids (3), into which chambers the chemicals (14) for water treatment are accommodated. In each chamber (2) is arranged a spring(97)-tensioned piston (4) which is connected to a release mechanism (5, 6, 7). For metering the chemicals (14) into the water to be treated, the pack unit (1) can be connected to a clockwork mechanism (12) which sequentially actuates the release mechanism (5, 6, 7) of the individual pistons (4). After it has been released, the piston (4) travels abruptly through the chamber (2) and ejects the chemicals situated therein into the water to be treated.
