The pulse rate supplied by a counting tube (3) is linearly amplified in the preamplifier (5). In a following low-pass filter (6), the noise is reduced and the pulse length is limited in conjunction with the parts (4 and 5). Then the dynamic pulse range is reduced in a logarithmic amplifier (7). The widening of the noise spectrum occurring during this process is reduced in a further low-pass filter (8). The pulse signal is then supplied to two threshold discriminators (9, 10) with a narrow dynamic range which are followed by an evaluating stage (13) of known type which supplies separate alpha and beta counts.
